If you’re thinking about taking your brand to the next level, a well-designed logo can be a launchpad for your success, helping transform your new business into a money-making venture. After all, a good logo is the cornerstone of your brand. It helps customers understand what you do, who you are and what you value. More than that, the right design can help your brand become recognizable.
This brings about the question: How much does a professional logo cost?
So often I hear from prospective clients “I have a friend who got a logo for $5 on Fiverr.” Let me be clear. Your friend did not get a professional logo, what they received is most likely a plagiarized logo (and your friend will be liable for copyright infringement), or some cheap clipart or icon, which looks ridiculous and is still a teeny tiny bit illegal. Fun stuff I’m sure you don’t want any part of.
What about that “bargain” of a deal you saw on Craigslist for the $30 logo design? It might be an adorable design, but I guarantee that the designer won’t do any research and will probably just design something from the top of their head without knowing anything about your brand. So, it might be an adorable design but it won’t have any staying power, and it won’t do anything to strengthen your brand.
You know that saying, “you get what you pay for?” Zero difference when it comes to logo design. Now, it’s not my intention to belittle anyone whose budget can only afford them low priced logos, nor to convince anyone that they should buy a more expensive branding package. I simply want you to be aware of what you’re buying. While there is a logo available somewhere out there for every price point, there is a good reason why professional branding options cost as much as they do. The reality is that you’ll be hard-pressed to find a professional designer who charges less than $200-$300 for a professional logo.
Why is that?
Believe it or not, designing a high-quality, professional logo actually takes work. It’s researching your brand. It’s researching your target audience and even researching your competition. It’s hours of brainstorming, sketching, refining ideas, and revising designs. It’s numerous back-and-forth phone calls and emails. Not to mention, professional designers have to stay atop current technology and software. And, unfortunately, those things aren’t exactly in the bargain bin. I’d hate to say we pass the expense on to you, but that’s every business. If we charge you less than what it takes for us to stay afloat financially, we’d sink and go out of business.
The bottom line: Spending more gets you more bang for your buck in the way of creative talent and design services. You’ll receive a quality logo that will strengthen your brand. Remember, your logo is often the first thing people will see of your brand and you want to make a great first impression. So why risk having someone take one look at your logo, the very face of your company, and cringe?
